WELCOME TO SAIL COUNTRY - NARRAGANSETT BAY

Best Viewed from the Deck of the Sailing Yacht, Quintessence

Nothing is more relaxing, exciting, or fun than sailing for a day on the pristine waters of Narragansett Bay, the sailing Mecca of the Western Hemisphere.

Waiting to take you on the adventure of a lifetime, an elegant Nordic 44 named Quintessence lies at her mooring just off the shores of Jamestown, the crown jewel of the historic bay. Designed by renowned nautical architect, Robert Perry, Quintessence will catch the breeze and whisk you away to destinations that dreams are made of.

Just minutes from Newport, home of yacht racing's famed America's Cup, Captain Don Miller will let you take the wheel and steer Quintessence past Fort Adams and sail amongst the classic yachts from Newport Harbor. Steeped in history and tradition, panoramas of rugged coastlines punctuated by picturesque seaside castles and villages will pass silently by while you bask in the splendor of quaint New England charm.

Call (401) 423-0612 for directions to Quintessence and for answers to any questions you may have.

What to Bring

The temperature can often change dramatically in New England, depending on the season and time of day. Bringing a windbreaker, sweatshirt, or light jacket, even in the summertime, is a wise decision.

Boat shoes or shoes with non-marking soles are appreciated.

We sail in the sunshine, so make sure to bring a hat and sun block.

Eat, Drink, and be Merry

Feel free to bring food and drink. We suggest sandwiches and finger food. Meals that are easy to eat are best. Avoid plates and anything that can spill. Remember, the yacht is moving and you will enjoy your delicious repast much more if you don't have to worry about balancing, or worse, catching it.

If you want, we will be more than happy to provide catering. Give us an idea of what your party would like, and we will do our best to fulfill your wishes. Just ask, if you need suggestions.

Alcoholic beverages are welcome. However, we cannot provide or serve them. So bring your favorite libation, and we will supply the ice and atmosphere.

Where We Sail

A full day on Quintessence can take you from Newport Harbor, past Castle Hill Lighthouse, around Aquidneck Island along the palatial mansions lining Ocean Drive, and then south to the outer bay and Rhode Island Sound
(former America's Cup racing territory).

During the course of the day, you'll see the lighthouses at Rose Island, Castle Hill, Beaver Tail, Point Judith and Sakonnet Point.

Along the way, you can drop anchor, watch the sunset, and enjoy a glass of fine wine while you listen to your favorite music on the ship's Bose stereo system. On the way back, reflect on the day, and the magic of the trip aboard a sailing ship will be etched on your mind forever.

Then, plan another day on Quintessence. You haven't experienced the upper bay where quaint fishing villages with dockside restaurants await you. But that's another adventure. Just ask Captain Don . . . I'm sure he'll tell you
all about it.
